Bobby Buka, MD
Dr. Bobby Buka, New York City’s leading dermatologist, offers a wealth of dermatologic experience in both cosmetic and medical treatments. Born and raised in New York City, Dr. Buka is passionate about the skin health and skin care of New Yorkers. With his unique approach to dermatology treatment in New York City, Dr. Buka not only aims to diagnose and prescribe the most common skin issues--from acne to psoriasis--but places a unique emphasis on education and building a relationship with each of his patients.
A graduate of the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago, Dr. Buka was initially drawn to the breadth of care offered in the field of dermatology: from acne, to botox, to skin cancer treatments, dermatology is an expansive practice with a range of unique services. On the forefront of dermatological medicine, Dr. Buka enjoys both the simple, everyday aspects of dermatological practice and more critical elements of the job.
After graduating, Bobby Buka completed an internship in internal medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Buka completed his residency at the University of California, San Diego and a fellowship in pediatric dermatology at Children’s Hospital San Diego. He is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and is affiliated with Mount Sinai Hospital. Many of his experiences and expertise can be found in his books Buka’s Emergencies in Dermatology and the newly launched Top 50 Dermatology Case Studies for Primary Care.
Dr. Bobby Buka opened his dermatology practice, Bobby Buka MD, in June of 2007. Since, he has opened offices in five different locations across Manhattan and Brooklyn. Patients of Bobby Buka MD experience care that reflects his philosophy of bringing authenticity and comfort into traditionally clinical medical spaces. Alongside a stellar team of practitioners and PAs, he strives to provide personalized experiences for every patient so that he can understand their story, not just their skin problem. Patients of Bobby Buka MD receive the sophistication of cutting-edge medicine along with the careful attention and intimacy of a down-to-earth, neighborhood doctor. Dr. Buka has found great fulfillment in his field, whether in the provision of life-saving skin cancer treatment or simply helping patients of all ages, classes, and colors feel confident about their appearance.
In an effort to avoid the sterile, white wall doctor’s office that is typical for his field, Bobby Buka is personally involved in the interior design for each of his five facilities, which are designed to allow for open, one-on-one communication. Patients will notice that every Bobby Buka MD office has a distinct flavor unique to its NYC neighborhood location and the patients serviced there. From the spa-chic energy of the Upper West Side to the Japanese inspired Crown Heights office, common elements include vintage artworks, sliding doors, and colorful statement pieces.
An occasional columnist for MindBodyGreen, Bobby Buka envisions the future of dermatology as moving away from pure medical, pharmacological dermatology and flowing more toward a holistic approach to wellness and skincare. Instead of relying first and foremost on pharmaceuticals, he prefers to customize treatment plans for the most effective, least invasive strategy. His expertise has been featured not only in dermatology and plastic surgery textbooks and medical journals, but on Good Morning America, The Today Show, The Huffington Post, Inside Edition, and in Health Magazine.
Dr. Buka actively promotes the importance of maintaining healthy skin. He is a contributing founder and chief science officer of First Aid Beauty, a paraben-free skincare line that addresses common skincare challenges. Dr. Buka and his PAs and practitioners use and sell First Aid Beauty products at all of his offices. The preferred dermatologist of cover models, professional athletes and other high-profile celebrities, Bobby Buka MD’s offices can be found in the Upper West Side, Greenwich Village, South Street Seaport, Williamsburg, and most recently, Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
