Fractional CO2 for Surgical Scar Treatment

The Fractional CO2 laser treatment can be used for a variety of reasons, including fine lines, stretch marks, scarring resulting from acne, and surgical scarring.

Fractional CO2 laser treatment can be used for a variety of reasons, including fine lines, stretch marks, scarring resulting from acne, and surgical scarring. The most popular Fractional CO2 lasers are Matrix and Fraxel.  In just one to two treatments, these lasers can diminish the appearance of many types of surgical scars on any area of the body. An experienced laser surgeon, like Dr. Bobby Buka, is necessary to provide this treatment option safely, especially for patients with darker skin types.

The fractional lasers work by treating microscopic segments of the skin with its pulse, which leaves the surrounding area unaffected. Then, the damaged skin is naturally replaced by collagen that is produced by your body. It is guaranteed to not compromise the surgery that resulted in the scar at all. Fractional CO2 lasers provide a safe, more effective, and faster healing time than traditional lasers.

After an initial consultation and examination, Dr. Buka will decide upon the best treatment option for the scar. For the treatment, he will cleanse the skin thoroughly and apply an anesthetic to numb the skin. After a half-hour, the anesthetic will take effect and be removed for the Fractional CO2 laser. The length of the treatment is related to the size of the scar, but most are between 10-30 minutes. Throughout, there will be very minimal amounts of discomfort, but no significant pain.

Once the treatment is over, the affected area will be very red, but this normal and not a cause of concern. Dr. Buka will provide you with everything you need, including topical ointment to cover the area with for the first few days after treatment. Within a short time, you will start to notice a smoother and healthier looking scar. In order to schedule a consultation to discuss a Fractional CO2 treatment, please contact Dr. Bobby Buka today!
