I still have acne after using Accutane. Should I consider a second course?

There are a few things to consider when thinking about completing a second course of Accutane. Accutane is a form of isotretinoin and almost ten percent of the national population requires a second course of isotretinoin for the return of recalcitrant acne vulgaris. However, we noticed that some therapies, including topical antibiotics, topical retinoids, oral antibiotics, and oral contraceptive pills, can be more effective prior to the first course of isotretinoin.

I recommend starting with these conservative measures first before starting your second course of Accutane. If this does not work for you, please talk to your board-certified dermatologist about using a second course of isotretinoin for a more durable impact on your acne.
