Kara Hartmann, PA-C

Kara Hartmann is a board certified Physician Assistant who graduated from Arcadia University in Philadelphia, PA with a Master of Medical Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies.  She completed her Bachelor of Science in Biobehavioral Health from The Pennsylvania State University. She is board certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants and is currently a Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. Within the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, she will soon achieve diplomate status after the completion of 70 hours of dermatology coursework.

Kara joined Bobby Buka Dermatology in 2014. A shining example of NYC’s best and brightest PAs, Kara takes pride in offering excellent patient care, and takes great satisfaction in educating patients and seeing results develop quickly.

As part of her clinical medical education, Kara studied overseas in South Africa where she provided medical and surgical care to underserved areas in Piet Retief. While abroad, Kara helped educate students who were enrolled in the University of Pretoria’s Clinical Associate program, a new degree equivalent to that of a Physician Assistant, designed to help alleviate the shortage of healthcare workers in SA. Kara also trained as an EMT at Penn State and worked as a clinic volunteer in the health center.

Prior to joining the BBMD team, Kara began her career practicing as a dermatology PA in West Palm Beach, Florida. There, she focused on the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer and first assisted in Mohs Surgery.   Kara developed a particular interest in skin cancer treatment and prevention, and hopes to bring a unique perspective from her time in the Sunshine State to her New York patients.

Besides skin cancer screening, Kara has an interest in general dermatology and minimally invasive aesthetic treatments. She recommends lasers as a noninvasive option for skin rejuvenation without plastic surgery, appreciating that this technology can accomplish anything from hair removal to pigmentation changes.

Kara believes that every patient is unique, and that even though some skin issues may present alike, every patient should be treated individually with specific attention and care. She encourages patients to commit to their skin on a day-to-day basis to achieve lifelong results.

Kara currently lives in Manhattan, New York, where she shops, reads, and travels to and from London while her husband completes his MBA overseas. Also a traveler between Bobby Buka MD’s Brooklyn and Manhattan offices, you can find her in a number of our dermatology offices ready to hear your story and help give your skin the care it deserves.
